Human Logic
June 28, 2016By Ed Wrather

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. – Ephesians 2:8-10 NKJV.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. – John 3:17-19 NKJV.

Dominyk Antonio Alfonseca, who is 24-years-old is going to prison for 35 months for a bank robbery in Virginia. The evidence is indisputable, which includes Dominyk posting on Instagram two videos of the robbery, and also a photo of the note passed to the bank teller. Dominyk enjoyed his ill-gotten money for all of 20 minutes before his arrest with the bag of cash. In Dominyk’s defense, he was polite and his note passed to the bank teller did say “please” and had smiley faces on it. Also, Dominyk says he posted the Instagram videos to prove he did not have a firearm. However, Dominyk disputes his guilt and says, “I don't know how I'm a robber because I asked for it. She could have said no, and I could have left. I didn't have a gun. I didn't have anything. I even waited my turn. They called me up and I handed them the note. I didn’t consider it robbery. The way I see it is, by law I might be guilty, but by my logic I’m not. I feel like I’m innocent by logic.” (CBSnews; WTKR Norfolk 12.23.15)

For those of you thinking about applying for a loan from a bank, here is an important point about procedure. Do not simply enter a bank and give a bank teller a note asking for money! Ask to see a loan officer about applying for a loan. It is easy to see the flawed logic of Dominyk Alfonseca. Dominyk thought he could escape a charge of robbery on a technicality of not actually saying he was robbing the bank. The law, however, is also clear in that a bank robbery is a bank robbery even if you ask politely for the bank to give you money. Human logic vs. the law, and the law won. Actually, there’s a song by that title: I Fought the Law and the Law Won. Here are some of the lyrics:

Breakin' rocks in the hot sun
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won
I needed money 'cause I had none
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won

(Just in case you didn't get it: The Law Won!

On a spiritual basis human logic says there should be many ways to Heaven. God says there is only one way, and that way is through Jesus Christ who says, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me (John 14:6). Human logic also says that if I do enough good things to outweigh the bad things that I do, it will entitle me to go to Heaven. However, God says For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast (Ephesians 2:8-9).” Trusting in human logic spiritually will send you to eternal torment in a devil’s hell. Just because something sounds good to our human minds does not necessarily make it so.
