No More… (In Remembrance of 9/11) September 10, 2010 • By Ed Wrather 09.10.10
And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. - Revelation 21:4.
It is clear from this verse that there will be death, sorrow, crying, and pain even for Christians while on this earth. There is more than enough to go around. New York City, Washington D.C. and Afghanistan are the most recent names, which symbolize the pain of human agony.
It has been said there are no atheists in a foxhole. I have not heard any atheists testify to their unbelief since this tragedy and how their unbelief helped them make it through it. But I have heard survivor after survivor tell of how they prayed and how God protected them and helped them. Yes, some Christians died, some Christians were injured, and some Christians lost material possessions. But as Christians we have a peace which is beyond understanding, a joy that is unspeakable, and a hope that good will come from the bad.
The unbeliever only has more of the same and worse to look forward to after death. The Christian has hope, the unbeliever has nothing. For the Christian death will bring a New World. In this New World, the "former things" will "have passed away." God will wipe away our tears, and "there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain."
Some Thoughts Nine Years Later:
Tonight for the first time I heard two survivors of the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center tell of their escape. They spoke of their prayers and how God answered them. They spoke of how after their escape their first thoughts were to find a church and thank God.
We do have some things to be thankful about. We can be thankful that there were not thousands more people inside of the World Trade Center when the 9/11 attack occurred. We can be thankful that the economy of the United States and of the world did not collapse as it appeared for a while that it might. Although there have been more attempted attacks on the United States there have been none of the magnitude of 9/11.
The Bible tells us in Colossians 3:17, "And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." Let us give thanks this anniversary of 9/11 for all that our God has done for us. We do have much for which to be thankful.
"Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples!" (1 Chronicles 16:8)  Visitor Comments (0) Be the first to post a comment! The more you know God, the more you can be still in Him. When the worst happens how should we live our lives? The illusion of our comfortable lives is being shattered by the war in Ukraine. |
